Gerard Byrne was born in Brisbane and completed his secondary schooling in Townsville. Gerard's father was a small business owner, and Gerard learnt at an early age about the opportunities and challenges faced by small business. Gerard completed a Bachelor of Commerce at James Cook University, and he went on to work in a number of fields in Australia. Gerard is a member of CPA Australia, and he has been awarded for his work in promoting best practice in businesses in Australia.
Since 2000, Gerard has been working in North Queensland, focusing on assisting regional, rural and remote communities and businesses.
Gerard has worked across a wide range of industries, and he has a very good knowledge of Government Business Support Programs. Gerard teaches part-time at James Cook University in Innovation, Entrepreneurship and the Digital Economy.
